We are seeking a Research Scientist/Senior Research Scientist to work both independently and as part of a team to develop fermentation and biotransformation processes for the production of antibiotics, enzymes, metabolites, and therapeutic proteins. A strong background in microbiology is required. The position involves the operation of fermentation equipment including flasks, 1-liter, 14-liter, 60-liter, and 250-liter fermentors, the performance of downstream process operations, data analysis and interpretation, and written and oral presentation of results, both internally and to clients. The job will require flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as fermentation processes often do not follow rigid schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS:

An M.S., Ph.D. or Chem.E. with fermentation emphasis, having at least two years of post-degree experience in biochemical engineering or life sciences. A strong background in microbiology and proven ability to conceptualize, design, and carry out fermentation research and development experiments is essential. Experience with Design of Experiments is desirable. Experience with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC and GC is required. The candidate must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting project timelines and deadlines. Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
